The Great Gatsby ~ Summer Reading Response

                                                           *HUGE SPOILER ALERT*
(dont read first paragraph if you are planning on reading or are reading this book)

The Great Gatsby By F.Scott Fitzgerald is about a Minnesotan man named Nick Carraway who moved to Long
Island for business in 1922. He moved into West Egg a town in Long Island, full to the brim with the wealthy men and women of the time. Nicks neighbor was a mystery to all of West Egg, his name was Jay Gatsby. Everyone knew Mr Gatsby for his extravagantly large saturday parties, but no one actually knew Jay Gatsby. People went to his parties with no formal invite or knowing of the host. The people of West Egg had only heard rumors of the notable Gatsby, but no one had actually talked to him before. After only a few months of living next door to Jay, Nick received an invitation to Gatsby's next party. When Nick arrived at the party he met Jordon Baker and they talked of Jay and all the strange rumors they have heard of him. Later on at the party they both finally met Gatsby. He was described as youthful, calls almost everyone "old sport" and has a slight British accent. Throughout the rest of the book Nick learned more and more about Jay. He soon found out about Gatsbys long running love for a girl named Daisy Buchanan. Daisy was Nicks cousin. Gatsby knew Daisy from 1917 in Louisville Kentucky, where he used to live. Gatsby asked Nick to set up a reunion for Daisy and him. So Nick did as Jay asked and invited Daisy over to his house for tea one afternoon. When Jay shows up of course it was quite awkward but soon after they fell in love yet again and began an affair together. As the book continues more and more things happen such as, Tom, Daisy's husband, figured out about the affair and Daisy went back to Tom. In the end Tom's true love, Myrtle Wilson got hit by a car. Daisy was driving the car but because it was Gatsby's car, Tom believed he did it. So Tom told Myrtle's husband George and he showed up at Jays house one day and shot both Jay and then himself.

Although this book was slightly gruesome I really enjoyed reading it. I loved reading about this group of people and how the plot was formed. My favorite aspect of this book would have to be learning about the lifestyle of wealthy people in the early nineteen hundreds. How they dressed, spoke and acted, their houses, jobs friends it was all so intresting to me. I recommend this book to anyone who isn't bothered by stories of cruelty and violence.  I personally believe this book is a wonderful book for anyone twelve and older, it tells an amazing story to follow and I'm definitely going to be reading this again.
